AFRICAN CONFEDERATION CUP 2016 - SEMI-FINALS - 1st leg - so far

AFRICAN CONFEDERATION CUP 2016

Reigning champions Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel are held 1:1 by visiting TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the first leg of their Confederation Cup semi-final.

Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel were held to a 1:1 draw by visiting TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the first leg of their Confederation Cup semi-final on Saturday.

The Confederation Cup holders took the lead after 19 minutes when a a Hamza Lahmar free kick found a way through the Mazembe wall.

Last year's African Champions League winners Mazembe scored an important away goal six minutes after half-time through Ivorian Roger Assale.

The other semi-final first leg is on Sunday as Algeria's Mouloudia Bejaia host FUS Rabat of Morocco.

Etoile and Mazembe have won nine African titles each, FUS Rabat won the tournament in 2010 leaving Bejaia chasing a first ever continental title.

A strong defence faces a formidable attack when first-time semi-finalists Mouloudia Bejaia host FUS Rabat.

Bejaia are coached by former Algeria defender Nacer Sandjak and have conceded only three goals, all away from home, in eight matches en route to the penultimate stage.

FUS, the only semi-finalists who did not begin this season in the Champions League, have struck 23 goals in 12 games.

Abdessalam Benjelloun and Mohamed Nahiri have both scored four each with another nine different players getting on the scoresheet during the tournament so far.
