Stars in Europe - France - Keyplayer Ibrahima Konaté completes free move to Real Madrid

Ibrahima Konaté

Los Blancos have confirmed an agreement to sign Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer, with the France centre-back joining on a four-year contract until 30 June 2030. The move comes after Konaté and Liverpool couldn't close the gap over his value and wages, ending his five-year stay at Anfield.

The Liverpool years
Signed from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m, Konaté made 183 appearances across all competitions and won the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups during his time at the club.

The exit
Konaté, currently with France at the 2026 World Cup, recently expressed regret at missing a proper send-off with Liverpool fans, saying he was "deeply saddened" not to have known his final home appearance against Brentford on 24 May would be his last in the shirt.

The bigger picture
Konaté's arrival adds another defensive reinforcement to a Real Madrid squad already reshaping its attack this summer with Yan Diomandé and a fresh Vinicius Junior contract.

Fact
Another World Cup star heading to the Bernabéu.
