NATIONAL TEAM - BELGIUM - 2014 WORLD CUP - Belgium welcome attack-minded foes

“The United States came out to win the match rather than avoid defeat. We were then able to take advantage of the extra space,” confirmed Kevin De Bruyne, who opened the scoring in the third minute of extra time and put in a fine all-round performance, linking well with Eden Hazard in particular. “It was a real pleasure to play such free-flowing football,” he added.

Stars in Europe - Netherlands - Keyplayer - Transfer - Denzel Dumfries moved to Real Madrid

Denzel Dumfries

The Details
Real Madrid completed another signing this summer. Denzel Dumfries moved to Los Blancos from Inter Milan on a four-year contract.

The numbers
Dumfries made 207 appearances for Inter Milan after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, contributing 27 goals and 28 assists. Along the way, he helped the Nerazzurri win two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia trophies.

The bigger picture
Dumfries was Real's fourth signing of the summer, part of a busy rebuild. He was expected to provide direct competition for England's Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. A clear signal of president Florentino Pérez's promise to fix the club's defensive frailties after a trophyless season.

On the world stage
Dumfries also helped the Netherlands reach the last 32 at that summer's World Cup.

Fact
Real Madrid's defensive rebuild continued.
